De nuevo, un equipo de la Segunda División sorprendió por sus abultadas victorias, y en las semifinales, por incluso derrotar al Dundee FC, ante 13.000 aficionados. El entonces vigente campeón, que en los octavos de final había conseguido victorias de números de dos dígitos y vencido también al Queen's Park 3:1 en los cuartos de final, hizo una gran semifinal contra el Third Lanark, que previamente había eliminado al Celtic y al “Hibs”. El derby local de Glasgow fue presenciado por 17.000 espectadores en Ibrox Park, después por 10.000 y más tarde por 12.000 en Cathkin Park. Los goles de la decisiva final fueron marcados por John McPherson, y, desde el punto de penalti, por Neil Gibson.
