Esta competición de Copa fue disputada por 138 equipos, haciéndose necesario jugar primero tres rondas a escala local. El finalista del año anterior sufrió una prematura eliminación a manos del Third Lanark. El Dumbarton tuvo mucha suerte en los cuartos de final, habiendo sido ya eliminado por el Hurlford FC (1:2), cuando la FA escocesa dictaminó que se tenía que repetir el encuentro debido a que el terreno de juego estaba congelado y resbaladizo. Así que los cuatro equipos más potentes llegaron a las semifinales, y el ”Hibs” a su primera final. Fue la primera final Este contra Oeste de la Copa escocesa. El pequeño pero astuto Ralph Aitken (16.2.1863-10.1.1928) adelantó a los favoritos, pero el “Hibs” contrarrestó bien, si bien el gol de la victoria de "Willie" Groves tenía tufillo a fuera de juego.
