El éxito del Blackburn Rovers continuó en la FA Cup. En octavos de final derrotó al equipo de Chester 7:0, en la eliminatoria de cuartos de final contra el Wolverhampton Wanderers (2:0) se aprovechó incluso de los goles en propia meta de los defensas del Wolverhampton Baugh y Fletcher. En la final, derrotó a su rival de Nottingham más de forma contundente de lo esperado al asegurar pronto el partido con un comienzo espectacular. La defensa escocesa del entonces vigente y al tiempo nuevo campeón resultó ser demasiado sólida para los ”Magpies”. Sólo el delantero centro escocés James Oswald, que ya había marcado los dos tantos del desempate de la semifinal contra el Sunderland, consiguió burlar en una ocasión a la defensa del Blackburn.

Fue impresionante que en esta final de la FA Cup jugasen nueve (!) escoceses, cinco de ellos internacionales. Ello también constituía un indicador de que el fútbol de los clubes profesionales en Inglaterra, en donde era legal desde 1885, se aprovechaba entre tanto de los jugadores escoceses.
